Digital Derivatives – 3D Scanned Portraiture / Christopher Coleman

In this workshop we will explore the possibilities of portraiture enabled by 3D scanning using inexpensive tools. We will look at scanning processes using portable scanners as well as with photogrammetry. We will then use the free open source tool Blender to manipulate and render the scans to produce stylized portraits. Participants will become familiar with 3D scanning processes, files, and techniques as well as the basics of 3D modeling and rendering in Blender. No experience necessary.

– Participants should bring a laptop, a 3 button mouse, and a device with a camera (a smart phone is fine).
– Also please install Blender from
